Aldeburgh Golf Club, Suffolk in England
"Among all the British Golf Links, it would be hard to find halfa dozen that can compare with this course, whether judged by its proximity
to the sea, salubrious air, lovely scenery, or (most important of all)
by the natural advantages of turf and ground, which form an ideal spot
for the pursuit of the Royal and Ancient game under most enjoyable conditions".
So wrote Horace Hutchinson in "British Golf Links" in 1883,
seven years after Aldeburgh was first played. In 1905, due to the loss
of some land at Aldeburgh Hall Farm on which the course sits, J H Taylor
and Willie Park Junior (winners of 7 Open Championships between them)
were called in to re-organise the course. Their joint recommendations
resulted in the layout much as it is today, when reopened in 1908.
