Alnmouth Golf Club, Northumberland in England
Alnmouth Golf Club is situated on the magnificent Northumberland coast, and overlooks the splendours of both Foxton and Alnmouth Bays. The Club
was formed in 1869, with a nine-hole course on the links at Alnmouth village
and is the fourth oldest in England, sharing its 'birthday' with Royal
Liverpool Golf Club. In 1905 an additional nine holes were built on the
hill overlooking the bay, and in 1930 the Club moved to Foxton Hall. The
famous golf architect H.S. Colt (designer of gems such as Wentworth, Pine
Valley and Sunningdale) created the present course, using part of the
original course and adding a further nine to the north of the new clubhouse.
Although the course has a coastal location, it has parkland turf and
a reputation for the quality of the greens. Alnmouth is a fine test of
golf and has hosted National and County events. Its subtle difficulties
are offset by the wonderful variety of scenery, ranging from seashore
to headland, with a breathtaking, panoramic view from the 15th tee over
many miles of the Northumberland coastline. The course is rich in wildlife
and is always a joy to play.
