Athenry Golf Club, Co. Galway in Ireland

Athenry is a mixture of parkland and heathland set against the backdrop
of a large forest. The course is built on a limestone base giving excellent
drainage and remains playable all year round. Celebrating its centenary
in 2002 this pleasant test of golf on the outskirts of Galway City offers
a challenge for all standards on a course which is un-crowded mid-week.

Extended to 18 holes in 1991 under the guidance of renowned architect
Eddie Hackett and further improvements in recent years by Eddie Connaughton
have led to the club hosting recent Provincial and National championships.
Feature holes are three par 3's set in the adjoining wood, with the signature
12th hole of 193 yds from an elevated tee amongst a corridor of beech
and pine trees is one of the most challenging and scenic holes to be seen
in Ireland.
The modern clubhouse with a friendly atmosphere gives excellent views
of much of the course and adjoining famous "Fields of Athenry".
