Ballyliffin Golf Club, Co. Donegal (The Glashedy Links) in Ireland
Situated close to Malin Head on Donegal's Inishowen Peninsula, Ireland'smost northerly links comprises 365 acres of spectacular duneland and is
practically surrounded by rolling hills and mountains with the only other
boundary being the Atlantic Ocean.
Ballyliffin Golf Club has two 18 hole courses: the classic Old Links,
which was described by Nick Faldo as the most natural golf course he had
ever seen, and the magnificent new Glashedy Links, which opened to great
acclaim in August 1995.
The Glashedy Links
Designed by Pat Ruddy and Tom Craddock on the landward side of the original
links, The Glashedy Links makes the most of a genuinely dramatic location.
The course architects promised the club that they would build one of the
world's finest golf courses - within two years they had honoured that
pledge.
With its vast undulating greens, cavernous bunkers and fairways that
twist and roll beneath towering dunes, Glashedy offers another formidable
challenge. On the back nine a tremendous sequence of holes commences with
the fiercely dog - legging 12th. The par five 13th is already being heralded
as one of the greatest par fives in Ireland (look ahead and you are reminded
of Ballybunion, look back at Glashedy Rock and you could be at Turnberry)
and the 14th is surely one of the most seductive of short holes.
Supremely testing and shatteringly beautiful, the rugged linksland of
Glashedy is destined for recognition as one of the great links courses
of the world. Ranked 6th in the Top Ten New Courses in the British Isles
(Golf World November 1996).
