Beech Park Golf Club, Co. Dublin in Ireland
Set in the magnificent Johnstown Kennedy Estate, the new course at BeechPark was designed by the well-known Irish golf architect, Eddie Hackett
and opened for play in the summer of 1983. Accurate driving is of paramount
importance on this mature parkland layout.
The fifth is a par 4 hole that well deserves its status as Beech Park's
index 1 hole. From the Medal tee a driver is essential if the green is
to be reached in two shots, yet it must be threaded between the two great
beech trees that guard the entrance to the fairway. Any faded drive is
thrown away to the left by the lie of the land, into the lateral water
hazard that runs the length of the hole. The 10th hole is the second leg
of Beech Parks "Amen Corner". The woodlands on both side of
this treacherous fairway are lined with Rhododendrons. In early summer
the splendour of the blooms sharpens the analogy to Augusta's. Once at
the top of the hill, the green can be seen to be set in a valley protected
on the right hand side by a large bunker and by towering trees on the
left. After a classic finishing hole, a warm welcome awaits you in a friendly
clubhouse.
