Fota Island Golf Club, located just east of Cork City, is situated in
the heart of an estate listed in the Outstanding Landscapes of Ireland.
Various golf publications have been fulsome in their praise of Fota. America's
Golf Digest enthused, "It makes you think...it tests all you skills.
It's real golf." Golf Monthly remarked "Purists will delight
in its old fashioned features", while Golf World claimed Fota was,
"Pick of the bunch..." of new courses.
The traditional design employed by course architects, Christy OÕConnor
Junior and Peter McEvoy is beautifully typified by the double-green feature
at holes eight and fourteen. Small wonder then, in only its third summer
of operation - that Fota Island has already hosted not only the Irish
Club Professionals' Championship but also the Irish Amateur Open.
The Clubhouse facilities are absolutely first class and special mention
must be made of Niblicks - a restaurant which can provide all that even
the most seasoned epicurean could desire.
