Gourock Golf Club, Strathclyde in Scotland

Gourock Golf Club, which is situated 26 miles west of Glasgow, was founded
in 1896 as a 9 hole course; it was extended to 18 holes in 1921 and subsequently
altered to its present layout by Henry Cotton in 1970. The course is a
testing par 73 of 6512 yards on moorland above the coastal town of Gourock
with spectacular views over the Firth of Clyde to the hills of Argyll.

A striking opening par 5 uphill is matched by the par 5 dog-leg 8th hole.
The long par 4 ninth hole is played from an elevated tee down to the clubhouse
with the river and hills an eye catching backdrop. The back nine opens
with a short par 4 over a gully which demands a bold tee shot. The closing
holes from the 15th are often aided by the prevailing wind and the magnificent
final hole is a par 4 dog leg left from an elevated tee down to the clubhouse.
A visit to the latter is not to be missed, particularly in the evening
when there is a panoramic view of the Clyde estuary with the sun setting
behind the hills of Argyll.
