Ranfurly Castle Golf Club, Strathclyde in Scotland
The Ranfurly Castle Golf Club was founded in 1889 but moved from itsoriginal course in 1902 to a new location, although still in Bridge of
Weir, when the Club acquired a huge track of land and had the new course
designed by Andrew Kirkcaldy and Willie Auchterlonie. Located in the Renfrewshire
hills only 5 miles from Glasgow Airport, it is a magnificent heathland
course set in over 300 acres, with delightful views of the valley of the
Clyde and beyond. It is a severe test of golf with very fast and beautifully
kept greens. "It is not merely pretty, however, Ranfurly Castle is recognised
as one of the finest courses in the west of Scotland and a considerable
challenge, despite an ostensibly modest card of 6,284 yards, par 70 and
SSS 71," (Golf Monthly).
Ranfurly Castle is very much a members' club, although casual visitors,
who are members of a golf club, are very welcome on weekdays and it is
usually possible to walk onto the 1st tee at any time.
