Stonehaven Golf Club, Grampian in Scotland

This undulating, parkland course which was extended to eighteen holes
from its original nine between 1987 and 1989, has the reputation of affording
visiting golfers the warmest of welcomes.
The emphasis here is on accurate play from the tee to set up an approach
to the often small and treacherous greens. Out of bounds has to be negotiated
on both the first and last holes with plenty to keep the golfer occupied
in between. The latter can also enjoy splendid panoramic views over Aberdeenshire,
from the Grampians in the west to the coastal area in the east.
The 'Groaner Stone' from which the club takes its logo, lies at the side
of the 14th fairway. There is a practice area available on the course
and the clubhouse, opened in 1994, caters to all the gastronomic needs
of visiting golfers.
