Wigtownshire County Club, Strathclyde in Scotland
The 'County' Golf Club is the only true links course in South West Scotland, situated on the shores of the scenic Luce Bay. The Isle of Man to the
south is visible on a clear day. Founded in 1894, the original 9 holes
were laid out by Charles Hunter, then the professional at Prestwick. Hunter
also designed Cochrane Castle and Prestwick St. Nicholas around this time.
When the course was extended to 18 holes in 1987 the second nine holes
were the work of former Scottish Professional Champion, Gordon Cunningham,
then professional at the Troon Municipal Courses. The excellent condition
of this exquisite piece of links land, combined with the subtly sloping
greens and changing sea breezes, provide an examination of golfing acumen
at all levels.
Visitors will find a friendly and informal atmosphere in the clubhouse,
with full catering facilities available throughout the year.
