Windyhill Golf Club, Strathclyde in Scotland
Situated about eight miles northwest of Glasgow city centre, the courseoccupies the side of one of the foothills of the Western Highlands.
The course is laid out on a series of plateaux, which divide the hill's
southern slope and the views which the course and clubhouse command over
the city and surrounding areas are unequalled. Windyhill Golf Club has
occupied its present site since 1924, having started life as Canniesburn
Golf Club in 1908. James Braid, 5 times winner of the British Open, designed
the course which is unusual in that the turf is somewhere between moorland
and parkland in texture. There are a number of stiff two-shooters among
the holes, resulting in a par of 71.
The course is rented from the Douglases of Mains, descendants of Robert
the Bruce, and the present club crest was adopted in honour of the family.
Windyhill's most famous honorary member is Janice Moody, who after a most
distinguished amateur career has successfully joined the ranks of the
LPGA.
